Intelligent smart phone case tracks hands
An ultra-thin phone case unraveling into a virtual reality world. Pinć (pronounced ‘pinch’) is a smartphone case for iOS & Android that converts into a wearable virtual reality experience. This case, combined with a free companion app, brings what you’re seeing to life.
Pinć is the first VR platform that fits in your pocket, allowing you to use your phone traditionally or as a virtual reality headset with integrated controllers. So Pinć claims to bring the virtual world from your pocket into your hands. It looks all very promising but there are more IndieGoGo projects which show us impressive technologies which are still a bit to far fetched. But Pinć looks for real and got a lot of media attention.
Behind Pinć is the Canadian technology company Cordon. Pinć is an iPhone 6 case accessory which comes with a free app. This combination provides a virtual reality platform allowing the users to interact with virtual visuals. You could compare it with for example the Leap Motion controller. When you unfold the Pinć case you get a virtual reality headset with integrated controllers. Is this a step towards the rise of spatial computing? Where you can use the surrounding to interact with the virtual world and where you are not limited by screens? Pinć enables you to shop, play games, browse or do almost anything else in the virtual world by an immersive virtual reality experience. The video looks very impressive.
Pinć hasn’t reached it’s 50.000 dollar goals but has still (when we wrote the article) some days left. So for those interested in this device you can pre-order it. Orders are due to ship next summer and an SDK for developers is also being released early 2015.
