We are already cyborgs

We are already cyborgs

In my keynotes about future technologies I always state that we already have become cyborgs. We are already merged with technology and it will go further.

Our memory and calculating power are already outside of ourselves. When we look at that fact we are already cyborgs. Technology has become an essential part of our lives. Many of us are even addicted to it. And many people believe that technology will solve all our problems. They believe that we will not have to adjust our systems, way of thinking and way of living. technology will help us to live the lives we have become addicted to. I do not believe that! It is the combination which will create a better future. Technology and science will help to create a better but also fundamentally different world. Our current systems and way of living will also have to be changed. And that is something which will depend on human behavior. Not technology.

When we look at the development of technology it more and more looks like that we have become slaves of our own technology. Is technology really helping us becoming more human again? Or are all those devices forcing us to do more, act faster and live even faster? Of course it is not the technology which makes us leaves it is something we do ourselves. We use technology from our old conditioned way of thinking and living. A way of believing that faster, more and bigger is better. A way of living which is totally focussed on growth and economic profit. I believe that we should leave these old fashioned ways of thinking behind us. It is not about more work, profit or consumption but about being more meaningful.

Jason Silva says that humans have become and sure will become cyborgs. But all these exponential technological developments force us to think about the positive and negative effects of technology. Our biggest challenge will not be technical but to use technology in favor of all humankind. Do not use technology to focus on purely economic growth, consumption, faster, more and bigger. Use technology to become more human, learn to live with our planet instead of on our planet and use it to close the gap of wealth inequality. That will be our biggest challenge. And never forget to change our systems because those are even more dominant than technology,
