Vision correcting screens

What will the future of our glasses and contacts be? Will the become intelligent or even obsolete? Will we in the near future be able to tweak our DNA and make glasses a thing of the past. Well maybe our screens will give a hand and will make glasses and contacts a thing of the past?

The MIT’s research department worked together with the University of California to create a digital display tech that can automatically compensate for vision problems. This could eliminate the need for glasses or contacts for specific uses like reading for far-sighted folks.

The new display tech is a variation on glasses-free 3D. The technology works not by displaying different images to both eyes, but works by sending slightly different images to different parts of each pupil.

Is there a possible future for this technology? The MIT team that developed it images solutions for age-related vision loss, which generally takes the form of farsightedness. This means that if you can see far but can’t read up close, you could use a GPS unit with this kind of screen to avoid having to wear bifocals or varifocals. That could be very handy. What do you think. Watch the movie for more information.
