Exoskeleton gives workers super power

Exoskeleton gives workers super power

We already know exoskeletons from the US Army. They are already using them. Now we see exoskeletons being tested in other environments like shipyards and even fire fighters.

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in Okpo-dong is testing Exoskeltons for their employees. The company is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world. Daewoo Shipbuilding wants to remain innovative and wants to take production to the next level by outfitting their staff with these robot exoskeletons. This suits will give them superhuman strength.

The exoskeleton Daewoo Shipbuilding is testing fits anyone between 160 and 185 centimeters tall. Workers who use the exoskeletons do not feel the weight of its 28-kilogram frame of carbon, aluminum alloy and steel. The suit supports itself and is engineered to follow the wearer’s movements. It has a 3-hour battery life and allows users to walk at a normal pace. This version of the exoskeleton enables workers to lift objects with a mass of up to 30 kilograms easily.

The tested prototypes still have several important things which have to be worked out. For example workers couldn’t work easily on sloping or slippery surfaces. The prototypes couldn’t cope with twisting motions, so workers making turns while carrying heavy objects could tire out easily.

According to Daewoo Shipbuilding we will soon see humans effortlessly carry ship parts which weigh more than they do and don’t even become tired. We see the merge of man and machine.
