Baby X, intelligent toddler simulation
Everyday we see amazing things in the world of technology. Machines are becoming more and more smarter and we humans help them. But for how long? Meet the impressive Baby X.
BabyX is an experimental computer generated psychobiological simulation of an infant which learns and interacts in real time. The Baby X algorithm is able to imitate the biological process of learning. This includes association, conditioning and reinforcement learning. Baby X is developed in the Bioengineering Institute Laboratory for Animate Technologies in Auckland New Zealand.
BabyX integrates realistic facial simulation with computational neuroscience models of neural systems involved in interactive behavior and learning. By algorithmically simulating the chemical reactions of the human brain and connecting them with sensory digital input like facial expression Baby X learns through interaction. The latest experiments from the Laboratory for Animate Technologies highlight Baby X’s ability to read simple words aloud and identify objects that correlate to those same words. A far cry from the kind of self-improving, self-replicating programs we all know and love to fear, Baby X soars beyond the Uncanny Valley, looking adorably confused when it doesn’t understand signals, and utterly joyful when its responses are correct.
The many advancements within technology will result in a fast grown up Baby X. For many people this is already shocking. Shocking in a way of advancements todays technology has already made and remember we are just at the beginning. Technology is becoming more intelligent, more human and will even get emotions. The future is closer than you think.
