The next black: future of clothing
Fashion changes every season. We are busy using new materials, creating new designs and colours. But when will we fundamentally change the way we look at fashion and clothes? We need to do this to become more circular and to distress our planet from our short sighted fashion industry.
The Next Black film from AEG is not about what’s new in fashion. It is about the future of fashion. The Next Black pays attentions to the innovators who are rethinking the way we use clothes. They have a fresh look for the future and are using their passions to fuel change. It’s not just about what we will be wearing but how we produce clothes, how we interact with them and how we care for them. It is about a fundamental different perspective on clothes. Finally we do that.
Sustainable future: Patagonia
Of course the Next Black documentary pays attention to leading sustainability company Patagonia. This company believes that the current way of doing business has exhausted our planet’s natural resources, and that we must take from the environment only what nature can replace. The circular economy. Patagonia is committed to reducing the overconsumption and overproduction of clothes across the globe. Patagonia believes that they have a responsibility to give back what they take and the company urges others to do the same.
Technology driven clothes: Adidas
Adidas’ latest innovation is all about performance tracking with cutting-edge technology directly into the fabric of sportswear. World-renowned professional sports teams are currently trialing this new way to monitor players in real time and adapt tactics and training sessions as they go using MiCoach Team Elite.
Of course we see also more far fetched examples of the future of clothes. For example ideas to grow your own clothes using bacteria. Suzanne Lee (Biocouture), is heading the world’s first biodesign consultancy firm, which brings knowledge from scientists’ labs into fashion production. Biocouture offers a completely new perspective on how we could manufacture clothing, accessories and sportswear in the future.
