Lego X: create digital files with lego
Creative studio Gravity (London) created a prototype system which allows designers to create digital files using lego bricks. This enables them to create physical lego designs and at the same time digitize them.
The prototype created by Gravity is called Lego X. Great name for a systems which works with Lego toy bricks that are equipped with sensors. Of course there is also an app needed. The sensors and app track the location, position, and orientation of the bricks. This enables the system to render a digital model of whatever is being build with the system. The system monitors each brick and the movements it makes. When bricks are attached to other bricks they are depicted as a one object by the app. The biggest advantage is that the creator can see his physical construction in real time on screen.

Another advantage is the the app lets the designer tweak the 3D digital model by making changes like smooth out corners or adding additional features on the digital model. The Lego X is a great example of the merge of the physical world with the digital world. This could also be a great idea or future future Lego toys.
We know Gravity already from their Gravity Sketch concept. Remember the the pen and pad which allows users to draw 3D objects in augmented reality and to view it through an augmented reality device like the Oculus Rift or another AR device.
The team of Gravity is currently raising investments for their patent pending innovation.
Gravity released a video demonstrating how Lego X works. We have embedded the video below. Take a look and what do you think. Will this be the future or not?
