IoT: When everything gets connected

IoT: When everything gets connected

Like I always say in my keynotes: we are creating a world where the smartest person in the room will be the room itself. Now with all the intelligent sensors, which are becoming fast even more intelligent, we are moving fast towards this scenario.

We are fast creating a world where it is possible to connect everything to each other. And with our smart phones, smart watches and smart clothes we are able to interact with all those devices. And it goes even beyond devices when we connect for example our body parts to the web. Technology is merging with the human flesh. And when this happens not only documents and the web will be searched and analyzed by smart algorithms but also it’s users. In other words: us!

So with the rise of the internet of things and our creation of very smart surroundings we also see more ethical questions. What about privacy, what happens with all that data and what about security when hackers are able to hack our bodies? Not even think about all the information marketers and advertisers get to sell you even more shit you do not need.  For now we are starting to connect our everyday objects to the web.

To use all of this technology from our old perspective which is focussed on consumption and economic growth could be a bit scary. So it is not the many changes and new technology which are scary but it is to look at all those new possibilities from our old perspective.
