The future of public transport

The future of public transport

Forget about inconvenient busses or train. In Tel Aviv you can use public transport in the near future as good as it gets. So luxurous, you never want to drive a car in your life. Skytran’s plans of the future are eminent.

When I drew my city of the future when I was boy, I made up flying cars driving (or flying) in the air in a long line. I was inspired by several Science Fiction movies, where you could see similar images of flying cars. The people behind Skytran are no doubt inspired in the same way. They developed a futuristic transportsysem.  This public transport sytem will be reality in Tel Aviv in a short period of time. The system is called ‘The Physical Internet’, or in other words a a physical virtual highway.

The transport system is a crossover between public transport and cars. It looks like a pod, with a two-person capacity. Via a website or an app you can book the ‘pods’. The pods move over a guided rail using electric magnetic levitation. It guarantees a quit journey without traffic jams across Tel Aviv. It gives a nice look at how urban transport will look like in the near future, thanks to NASA, who are co-developing this project. This  is a future I can live in. Not just because it looks downright beautiful, the Skytran is also energy efficient, comfortable and not to mention safe.

It is not yeat clear when the Skytran is operational on the 5 miles traject in Tel Aviv.
