Living dangerously, a people story
The single biggest thing humanity has achieved is climate change. The biggest thing humanity will achieve is to stop it.
Living dangerously is an extreme serie about the human impact on our planet. It isn’t the most positive serie you can watch but the news and climate developments aren’t also very hopeful. I wonder if this is the best way to motivate people to stop their endless and useless consumption. To do something about climate change themselves. To see and believe that we, as humanity, are on a dead end road. Living dangerously seems to be focussed on creating fear?
Some of the most famous people helped to make these series like Jessica Alba, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Thomas Friedman etc..
Fact is that we have to reset our current way of living. The best way to do it is to educate future generations. We have to stop using advertising and marketing to make people consume more. We have to reset our dependency of economic growth. It is a bid strange that on one hand our governments panic because there is a lack of growth. On the other hand we see a world which is suffering from our current (economic) systems. Technology and science will not solve our climate change problems. We, as a Western society have to rethink our way of living. We have to fundamental reset our business models, economic models en mental habits. Ego has to become eco.
I believe that we are making this big shift but most off the change is coming from society. The people are fed up with our governments doing near to nothing and are just preserving the status quo and their ego’s. People are making a shift in living with our planet instead of living on our planet. A fundamental and necessary transition. In my keynote on TedX University Tilburg I talked about these topics to.
