Google's self driving car in action
We hear and see a lot about the rise of the autonomous car. The most famous self driving car is of course the one which comes from Google. Now we see the car in action taking the safety of fellow traffic users into account on busy streets. Impressive.
All big car companies are working on the future autonomous car. It seems this movement found momentum by the initiative of a search engine company. Google seems to be leading the rise of the self driving car. Already they work for years on the safety and possibilities of the car and now they are moving a step ahead and are testing the car in even more difficult situations.
From driving on highways the car is now on the streets of busy towns protecting not only it’s passengers but also the people around it. Using tools designed to make the roads safe like cameras, radar sensors, laser range finders, and software that enable the cars to navigate through the streets. Google’s self-driving cars have already logged in around 700,000 autonomous miles and is still going strong.
When the autonomous car becomes available for everyone is still unsure. BMW, Audi, Toyota, Tesla, Volvo all are working on it and all are communicating another year in which their autonomous car will become available. We hear 2025 (BMW), 2020 (Daimler), 2017 (Tesla) etcetera. One thing is sure, the will be a day when our kids will not need to drive themselves anymore.
Google released recently a video showing the self-driving car on the city streets near the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. It’s a very impressive video because the car seems to act on possible dangerous situations and so the car becomes more predictive. Finally the future will bring us save cars where the most dangerous aspect of it: humans, are disabled.
