The revolution: power to the people

The biggest change we see is not in technology but within people. A change in who we trust, what we value and what we want. We see a shift towards power to the people.

Do we see a shift towards a more humanized society? A shift where we lose the dominance of large corporations and see the rise of human centered communities. A society which focusses on her responsibility towards the planet we live on. A society which doesn’t live on the planet but with the planet. Where consumers say goodbye to their years of addiction towards consumption and where the new status symbol is not how much you own but how smart you are not to own stuff. It this an ideal future view on current societies?

We see a lot of developments which could give us a glimpse of our future societies. We see the rise of more flexible communities, the rise of the maker revolution where everyone becomes a producer. We see transparency and a all time low in trust towards our traditional institutions. But we also see the opposite. The gap between rich and poor is widening. Only a few organisations are in control of what we, as the people, see or hear in media. New technologies give organizations even more power in marketing to control the way we consume. So we live in very interesting times. Will we continu on the dead end road. A road which seems to be the easiest one but is also the one which isn’t sustainable. One thing is sure, we have to get rid of our short term addiction.

I believe we are making a fundamental shift in the way we think. This is the trend of power to the people. A shift from people serving structures towards networks serving people. There is a mental revolution going on and it is going strong. we are changing the way we consume, produce, communicate fundamentally and our ego is replaced by eco. Society is building and embracing new systems which finally will make the current and traditional systems obsolete. We are more busy then ever to embrace change.

What our future will look like is unsure. But it is a future of the people and not governments or corporations. It is for all institutions, organizations and governments essential to connect with society. To embrace and facilitate the changes which are demanded by, and come from, society. This is the only way to become or remain successful in the near future.

Do you see the change?
