We are seeking. Doing endless sessions to come up with solutions to problems that have arisen. Organisations seeking growth. Institutes look for their real added value or governments to regain trust.
Continuously we think we can find solutions for the old world but we forget too often to explore the new world. Result: we create not enough radical innovation and we fail to break with our assumptions.
Everything we think and do are from our existing and learned assumptions and paradigms. The structures in which we have grown up are the things we think are normal and are accepted as truth. The main question we can ask ourselves is whether these systems and assumptions are so normal? Are they really serving the people and their future? Or are we to believe in a world that is totally destructive to the planet and its inhabitants? Is the world we still know the world that fits in our needed and wanted future?.
Do not fight the current, make it superfluous
Do not fight the existing, make it obsolete
A society is formed not only by what we add but also by what we refuse to break down. The special feature of this era is that we have the new technologies, we have access to knowledge and the ability to respect our earth and even allows to live in harmony. We can solve hunger and diseases. But we lack the ability and courage to break free from the conditioning and structures that are so deep in our DNA. Is it our ego which stands in the way to for an unifying vision with the existing world? Management is looking for too much information and too little transformation. We demonstrate excellent management by doing things well but we forget to ask ourselves whether we are doing the right things? We are wasting our time, and apparently limited resources, with a focus on being the exception to the rule? Instead of putting energy into changing those same rules? Creating new worlds which make the existing structures and systems become obsolete.
Explore, explore, explore
The challenge is that we are all 24 hours a day immersed in a world that we just need to get away from. Fact is that if you're somewhere in the middle of it is for people difficult, if not impossible, to question that same world. We have accepted this world and therefore no longer able to look different at many of the everyday things. To break through this we should explore more and think less. Experimentation and failure as the new DNA of each institution and organisation. A necessary feature for current and future managers. How scary is that? Indeed, it seems to be counter effective to fail more often. But remember if you are not failing you are not innovation. Besides this todays managers are bombarded with information and will miss the focus on the necessary transformation. After all the figures and information all have their origins in the past. But still this number have veto power in many of todays organisations. The Excel spreadsheet as the all-determining truth serum.
Get out of the hot bath of the past
My appeal to organisations to explore more and think less. Step out of the hot bath of the past and enter the so uncertain world of exploring. It will offer a world of openings for challenges that you'll never have imagined. When we look at technology we have te remember that new technology is so disruptive that the use of this technology based on our existing knowledge and assumptions will operate restrictive.
