Connected classrooms
What would education look like if all class rooms have unlimited acces to the outside world? Google has great expectations of this idea. They build Connected Classrooms, classrooms connected to the whole world. Fieldtrip to NASA? You won’t have to leave your class for that.
Going to school is happening mostly in the classic way. Get up, cycle to school, enter a classroom with one or two teachers, and then go home to do your homework. Now there are a lot of initiatives for innovation in education, mainly as a direct consequence of technology. But I see the school of my children that the smartboard primarily a digital blackboard is. Same meat, different gravy.
Google wants to change the classical education system. In the video below, they explain their idea of Connected Classrooms. They are going to use Google+ to almost literally the entire world to connect the classroom to every possible organisation. First, they focus primarily on ‘field trips’. But also learning a foreign language is a possibility with this technology. Or a teacher who simultaneously stands in front two classes, without being in those classes. Connected Classrooms lead to interactive teaching. And the beauty of it: you can also do it from home. Schools are no longer necessarily the only place to enjoy education. And education will be enjoyed, in this way.
