Google: the value of the web

Het internet heeft veel bestaande industrieën onder druk gezet en zelfs geherdefinieerd. En we staan pas aan het begin want het internet is eigenlijk nog erg jong. Met de website The Value of The Web wil Google de waarde die het internet heeft gecreëerd inzichtelijk maken. Dit door allerlei rapporten toegankelijk te maken via deze website. 

Dit is zoals men zelf het initiative The Value of the Web beschrijft: In less than thirty years, the Internet has become an indispensable guarantor of economic growth, social renewal and cultural enrichment. Quantifying its value is difficult because we still depend on economic models from an industrial age and think of the Web’s impact in terms of contributions to GDP. The studies collected here attempt to calculate how much the Internet is worth, but they are incomplete and demonstrate the need for new thinking if we are to understand – and harness - the full power of the Web. Our mission is to compile a respository of literature on the value and prospects of an open Internet and how it can be leveraged to create a sustainable future.

Met The Value of the Web start Google met een interessante Research site die de impact van het internet inzichtelijk moet maken. Een leuke extra bron voor diegene die op zoek zijn naar rapporten over het internet. De rapporten die nu genoemd worden waren al bekend maar de site kan weleens uitgroeien tot een interessante verzamelbak.
