Trend: Revaluation of Authority
Established authorities are slowly turning in their reputation. The government, doctors, the police, professors, journalists and statesmen are just a hand full of groups who cannot rely on an automatic historic authority and reputation.
Peers of consumers become more important and authority will be determined by the level of recommendations people or organizations get. Authority just based on a title or history will disappear or at least become less important. Society has been disappointed by these so called ‘established authorities’. Also the upcoming transparency makes that the established authorities cannot hide behind the authority just based on history or title. Authority will have to be built and proven again by each person and profession. New authorities arise from individuals with a certain passion for a topic and supporters. There will arise a new competition for authority where online authority will become more important.
