Web 3.0...a possible future of the internet
There is a lot of talk about Web 2.0. But the main change for the coming 10 years is changing the attitude of people.
Many companies are engaging on this change in attitude and will do so for the coming years. It is all about “going on-line†to “being on-line†for both human and machine. The Internet is in the near future not a place to go to, but infrastructure, glue as you will, that facilitates/holds, our world together. With web 3.0, all that is of value will be connected.
One expects there to be much more organic connection between people and technology (Vint Cerf)
Everyday products and appliances will be connected via the web 3.0. And it will be the death of all known mass media. Interaction will be key in Web 3.0 where everyone and thing is constantly connected. And there are already a number of signs that show truth to this new trend. Look at bigger budgets for video games in comparison to Hollywood movies. And look at Office suites that offer features to publish on-line and co-create documents via the web. Web 3.0 is not technology but art, a set of services and interaction – available and understandable for all. The new virtual world will be an independent meeting place ... for instance, car part manufacturers will place parts and creative minds will take these parts and design cars and pre-sell them to interested consumers. And only after pre-selling them will they be produced. Of course without car brands as we know them today.
Ray Kurzweil: “My whole thesis is that information technologies are growing exponentially. Things that we can measure like price performance, capacity, and bandwidth are doubling every year so that’s actually a factor of a thousand in 10 years,†So if the Internet is already very influential—if there is already a trillion dollars of e-commerce, already a very democratizing technology, then multiplying its size and scope by a factor of a thousand will be a very significant change.â€
The future of the internet looks great, but there will also be dark sides. There will also be new forms of crime. And we see that today, crime is declining in the physical world and moving towards the digital world. Also, privacy has to be redefined, and with it all businesses have to redefine their business models. More then ever, will organisations look for new entrepreneurship. They will be forced to think as a inter-connected and transparent world. Web 3.0 ... I can't wait to see it happen!
