Textile based sensing introduces air-guitar
Australian scientists have created a textile based sensing T-shirt allowing air guitarists to play real music without the usage of a real guitar.
The shirt uses motion sensors which are in the elbows of the shirt. The sensors pick up movements and send them wireless to a computer. The computer translates the motions to guitar riffs. This makes it possible to play the guitar without a musical background. The serious side of this innovation is that it can help athletes to improve the techniques.
Developing the air guitar was a technical challenge for precision textile-based sensing (Dr Richard Helmer, Research engineer, CSIRO Textile & Fibre Technology)
This innovation will take future clothing beyond fashion and protection and gives clothes a bigger role in society.
