Popband Moby sketches our technological future

For many people recognizable and confronted image of contemporary society that is shown in the music video of popband Moby

Moby recently released their new song with music video “Are you lost in the world like me”. A somewhat obscure song with a even more obscure music video. Extend Limits is not concerned with judging music and video clips. However, music does say a lot of our contemporary way of thinking. It is a music transition of what happens in our society. Therefore Extend Limits keeps track of lyrics and sentiments. This Moby clip appeared this weekend on Facebook.

On Facebook people quickly wrote messages with a so-called legal text which stated that the data of the respective Facebook account can not be reused. Total nonsense of course. But the message was shared by the masses. It this a sign of contemporary superficiality and instant gratification? No one takes the time of reading it carefully. It needs to be fast and easy. We rely on our network blindly which nevertheless also carries the biggest nonsense. Media, news, politics; everything needs to be fast. Technology makes it even more easy and with the abundance of information and the ease of sharing, we are becoming news zombies. Hooray to technological developments.

We also see developments against technologies. But they are still small. Moby hold us against a beautiful mirror to our contemporary society. Is this the progress we dreamt of? And what does the technological future bring? A future where technology has become a thing on its own. We are part of a digital jetlag. We are capable of anything within the field of technology, but more and more people seem to quit. We are creating a society with digital zombies with a narrow upper class that takes the benefits of the technological developments.

Let us become more conscious of the technological awareness and the possibilities that technology offers to actually deepen our worlds and intensify human relations with the aid of the signals that Moby gives us now. Let us protect ourselves from technological bubbles in which we run in circles and where we believe in our, by algorithms-created truths. Make technological advancements to actual human progress. There lies the challenge. Moby gave us the mirror and we make the digital difference.
