Did you know, human capital 2009
The 'Did You Know' clips are already a true hype. On a daily basis new versions arise on the internet. But the facts and figures are always stunning and prove our fast changing world. Today a 'Did You Know' version about human capital.
This 'Did You Know' clip was made by Lyle Potgieter, Mark Middleton, Fabrice Ho Fi and Renee Thorn and is a response on the questions in the original Did You Know, Shift Happens (2004). How will technology influence the human capital of organizations? Some fo the facts in the clip are:
- The average worker will spend 10 years of their working life dealing with emails.
- 1 0f 4 employees prefer to communicate via email rather then face to face, in 2020 this will be 3 of 4.
- Half of what students learn in their first year is outdated after three years.
- 2/3rds of social networking site users are actively in the workforce.
Some of the consequences of these developments are:
- We must be more flexible in how we prepare future generations for this new world.
- There will come a new 'pool' of people from other countries like China which will become competitors of us.
- Organisations with traditional training programmes will reduce the potential of the employees.
- New media can reduce the productivity when it isn't probable implemented in an organisation.
But the most important conclusion is: We are now in a transition towards a totally new world. And this is exactly what I want to ask you with our weekly question on Extend Limits. Is this recession a temporarily one or is it a sign that we are shifting towards a totally new and different world? please give your vote.
