Are you ready for the 21st century?
A clear question as title of a great videoclip: Are you ready for the 21st century? A century in which the world as we know it will change completely and fast.
We had the question if the current recession is a sign of the great tAnd of course I also think that we currently, and for the upcoming years, we are in a transition period. A period which will last at least untill 2020- 2025. The changes will be enormous. Traditional businessmodels, companies etc will fall and powers will shift rapidly. All because of new technology, consumer behaviour and possibilities within communication. Our trends for 2010 also give some insights in the future world.
The embedded videoclip shows us three so called 'Techtonic' powerchanges of the past 500 years.
Production:
- The first industrial era (from 1700) - the era of industrialised production
- The second industrial era (from 1900) - the era of seeking profits at all costs
- The post industrial era (vanaf 2000) - the era in which we seek a better quality of life.
According to ConstelionW we are now at the beginning of a new era. I agree with that. It is an era where we will make the transition from material wealth towards immaterial wealth. In the clip this is called the post industrial era. This has big consequences for every institution and company. Something we always say at presentations from Extend Limits..
We see that with every new era the society also because more complex. Future technologies and communication must help to solve these problems. In the clip several aspects are looked at from a future and past perspective. For example society:
- The first industrial era (from 1700) - Organized on the basis of countries. Territory is the source of power.
- The second industrial era (from 1900) - Territories and countries are organized based on their presence on a continent. The capital is the source of power.
- The post industrial era (from 2000) - Around the planet major cities are the capitals. Knowledge will become the source of power.
Economy:
- The first industrial era (from 1700) - Local markets for everything.
- The second industrial era (from 1900) - Markets are based on distribution networks owned by monopolies.
- The post industrial era (from 2000) - The economy will develop around the principle of customisation, thus proximity to customers, via millions of interest groups.
from...law of supply...to law of demand: From now on the consumer will decide
Informatie technology:
- The first industrial era (from 1700) - 1 medium for everything
- The second industrial era (from 1900) - different media separated from each other(not connected) and for the same audience
- The post industrial era (from 2000) - many (connected) media for everyone (network of networks).
It is the transition from the production of content by marketers towards the production of content by citizen en customers
For the first time in history we are moving from a generation of citizens informed by passive-and-controlled traditional media towards a younger generations who inform themselves principally using the open and interactive web.
In the clip there are also four scenarios: greener world - participative world - safe world - consumer world). Great clip and much to think about. How do you see the future world in which we live?
